Consciousness is indivisible…
- Consciousness is one seamless, indivisible, self-aware whole in which there are no parts, objects, entities or selves. Rupert Spira
- Truly speaking, Pure Consciousness is indivisible, it is without parts. It has no form and shape, no ‘within’ and ‘without’. There is no ‘right’ or ‘left’ for it. Pure Consciousness, which is the heart, includes all; and nothing is outside or apart from it. That is the ultimate Truth. Ramana Maharshi
.
…and therefore, cannot be torn apart
- Consciousness is dimensionless for all space arises as an appearance in it. Being dimensionless, consciousness cannot be torn apart. It is indivisible. This means there can only be one consciousness knowing all experience. Anthony Lambert
.
Consciousness is a single, infinite, indivisible whole
- In the ultimate analysis, there are no discreet independently existing objects and selves. There is just a single, infinite, indivisible whole whose nature is spirit or consciousness whose activity is the universe. Why does the world seem to exist as an apparent multiplicity of objects and selves. Because we view the universe from a localized perspective. Each of us are localized perspectives. It is consciousness that has localized itself within its own activity as each of our minds through which perspective it sees itself as a multiplicity of objects and selves . The whole contracts into a separate subject of experience and it is only through the perspective of that observer that the observed appears to be an object. The subject and object are two facets of the same infinite, indivisible whole whose nature is consciousness or spirit. Rupert Spira
- Pure awareness is whole, perfect, complete, indivisible and without limits. Rupert Spira
- Unity awareness is consciousness of the greater whole of which we are all a part and which we are now able to embody in human form. Jude Currivan
.
Consciousness is a singular
- Consciousness is a singular for which there is no plural. Erwin Schrodinger
- Consciousness is never experienced in the plural, only in the singular. Erwin Schrodinger
- It’s not that there is one world out there and numerous different consciousnesses viewing it. It is that there is a single consciousness vibrating within itself, and each of our minds are like viewpoints in that consciousness, from which that consciousness appears as the world. Rupert Spira
- We never in fact have any experience anywhere of a plurality of consciousness but always and everywhere only of consciousness in the singular. This is the one and only perfectly certain piece of knowledge. Erwin Schrodinger
- Vedanta teaches that consciousness is singular, all happenings are played out in one universal consciousness and there is no multiplicity of selves. Erwin Schrodinger
- There is no kind of framework within which we can find consciousness in the plural; this is simply something we construct because of the temporal plurality of individuals, but it is a false construction… The only solution to this conflict insofar as any is available to us at all lies in the ancient wisdom of the Upanishad. Erwin Schrodinger
- The mystical teaching of the ‘identity’ of all minds with each other and with the supreme mind…is clinched by the empirical fact that consciousness is never experienced in the plural, only in the singular. Erwin Schrodinger
.
Consciousness, seemingly many separate spaces, is in reality only one space
- Space seems broken and diverse because of the many forms in it. Remove the forms and pure space remains. So, too with the Omnipresent Self. Adi Shankara
- What is commonly referred to as ‘ego’, the separate entity, is the equivalent of the space, which is both inside and outside the jar, saying to itself, ‘I am the jar’. This Consciousness that is present during the appearance of the subtle object we call a thought is exactly the same Consciousness that is present during the appearance of the subtle object we call the dream. Rupert Spira
.
There is only one consciousness
- All finite minds are a contraction of the same infinite universal consciousness. Rupert Spira
- Awareness is one, perceptions are many. Deepak Chopra
- Awareness is one. William Samuel
- Consciousness is one with the totality of every experience, not just with a fragment, the body/mind. Rupert Spira
- I am awareness appearing as everything—every thought, opinion, emotion, experience, and state. It is genuine Oneness, a living realization characterized by love, humility, peace and inclusiveness. Scott Kiloby
- If something is limitless, how can there be room for two? Will Wright
- In a matter only model of the world, there are billions of consciousnesses experiencing one world. In the consciousness model, there is one consciousness experiencing billions of worlds. Anthony Lambert
- The whole creation is the dance of one consciousness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
- Ultimately, there is no such thing as “my consciousness,” but just the one consciousness. Eckhart Tolle
- The I that sees the world through us is the same as the I that sees the world through every animal. Arthur Schopenhauer
- There is no evidence in our experience to suggest that we have different Consciousnesses, or indeed that there is more than one Consciousness. Rupert Spira
- There is only one consciousness pervading the Universe and each of us is like a window through which that consciousness manifests itself. Bernard Haisch
- There is only one consciousness, one aware-presence that knows the coming and going of all things, but doesn’t come and go with them. And all things that arise in consciousness, which, in fact, is everything, must be made of consciousness, leaving us to conclude that consciousness is all there is. The source of our being. How simple is that? Will Wright
- In illuminated experience of non-dual awareness, we see that the true owner of all experiences of all streams is pure awareness itself. Pure awareness is the only subject, but it has multiple foci of experience, each of them an individual consciousness. A. H. Almaas
- Modern quantum physics talks about a unified field, which underlies and connects everything in creation. Who we are, is pure consciousness or Oneness, expressing itself in different forms at different times in our evolution. Pure Consciousness, which is eternal and timeless, is the Oneness; we are the separation or the duality. Roger Gabriel (Raghavanand)
- My awareness and your awareness are one all-pervading awareness. Anthony Lambert
- You don’t ‘have’ a life, you ‘are’ life. The One Life, the one consciousness that pervades the entire universe and takes temporary form to experience itself as a stone or blade of grass, as an animal, a person, a star or a galaxy. Eckhart Tolle
- We are open to the possibility that there is only one single, seamless totality, that Consciousness and Existence are one, that there is only one Reality. Rupert Spira
- Ultimately, there is no such thing as “my consciousness,” but just the one consciousness and to sense your connectedness with the one (I can sense that continuously, which is why I can say that I know this for sure) to sense that connectedness with the one consciousness that pervades the universe, which in some traditions is called God, to sense that frees you of fear, from anxiety, and takes you to a very deep place of peace, but also of heightened aliveness. Eckhart Tolle
- The unchanging and the changing, the localized and the non-local perspective, are but two conceptual ends of One Awareness. Leo Hartong
- The infinite vibratory levels, the dimensions of interconnectedness are without end. There is nothing independent. All beings and things are residents in your awareness. Alex Grey
- The essential discovery of all the great spiritual traditions is the identity of Consciousness and Reality, the discovery that the fundamental nature of each one of us is identical with the fundamental nature of the universe. Rupert Spira
.
There is only one being in the universe…
- Constantly regard the universe as one living being, having one substance and one soul; and observe how all things have reference to one perception, the perception of this one living being; and how all things act with one movement; and how all things are the cooperating causes of all things which exist; observe too the continuous spinning of the thread and the contexture of the web. Marcus Aurelius
- Deep down the consciousness of mankind is one. This is a virtual certainty because even in the vacuum matter is one; and if we don’t see this, it’s because we are blinding ourselves to it. David Bohm
- That which is the finest essence-this whole world has that as its soul. That is Reality. That is Atman. That art thou. Fritjof Capra
- Unity Consciousness is the experience of the 7 billion plus people on the planet being moved by the same force, which is God. It is the awareness to see what we really are: One Living Being. However, this is a truth that really can’t be explained with words; the minute you say it, it is no longer truth. Miguel Angel Ruiz
- There’s no one ‘being aware’, there’s only awareness. Mooji
- There is no my presence. Only the presence. Only one arising through different forms. Eckhart Tolle
- There is only one of us. One consciousness manifesting into different forms. Ram Dass
.
…one Self
- The ‘coming of the Self’ is immanent; and the process of collective ‘individuation’ is living itself out in human history. One way or another, the world is going to be made a single whole entity. But it will be unified either in mutual mass destruction or by means of mutual human consciousness. If a sufficient number of individuals can have the experience of the coming of the Self as an individual, inner experience, we may just possibly be spared the worst features of its external manifestation. Edward F Edinger
.
One consciousness is being everything
- Consciousness transitions from ‘I am something’ to ‘I am nothing’, and then from ‘I am nothing’ to ‘I am everything’. Rupert Spira
.
We are waves on the one ocean of consciousness
- As all waves are in the ocean, so are all things physical and mental in awareness. Hence awareness itself is all important, not the content of it. Deepen and broaden your awareness of yourself and all the blessings will flow. Nisargadatta Maharaj
- If I sink my attention deeply into the presence of awareness, it’s like sinking down into the depths of the ocean of being. The sense that I am an individual experiencing the world of separateness fades and I am immersed in a profound, undifferentiated oneness, beyond words to express. Tim Freke
.
As one consciousness, there is no separation between us
- How can your essential nature as awareness be separate from my essential nature as awareness? Tim Freke
- If there is no separate, independent Consciousness, how can there be a separate, independent thinker, chooser, doer, enjoyer, experiencer? Rupert Spira
- You are the one Seer of everything; you are emancipated; your only bondage lies in that you are seeing the seer as a separate being. Ashtavakra Gita
- There is no separate, independent Consciousness, how can there be a separate, independent thinker, chooser, doer, enjoyer, experiencer? Rupert Spira
- Every being experiences themselves as the center of their experience. Consciousness is what lies at our very core, and connects us all to each other. We may appear to be separate and individual because of The various forms our consciousness inhabits, but below The surface The substance of our being is one and The same. Joseph P. Kauffman
.
The recognition that the consciousness in me is the same as the consciousness in you gives rise to love
- Once there is a certain degree of Presence, of still and alert attention in human beings’ perceptions, they can sense the divine life essence, the one indwelling consciousness or spirit in every creature, every life-form, recognize it as one with their own essence and so love it as themselves. Until this happens, however, most humans see only the outer forms, unaware of the inner essence, just as they are unaware of their own essence and identify only with their own physical and psychological form. Eckhart Tolle
- The consciousness in you and the consciousness in me, apparently two, really one, seek unity and that is love. Nisargadatta Maharaj
- The experience of Love is precisely this relaxation of Consciousness’s exclusive identification with a separate body/mind and, as a result, the inevitable inclusion of the ‘other’, of all ‘others’, within itself. Rupert Spira
.
All experience is known by the same consciousness |
.
The consciousness that knows my experience is the same as the consciousness that knows your experience
- The awareness I am, free of content, is identical to the awareness you are. One awareness having two separate experiences. Anthony Lambert
- The consciousness inhabiting your body is exactly the same as the consciousness inhabiting my body. We are one. The delusion that we are separate beings comes from identifying with the world of form—with our names, our bodies, our roles, our beliefs, our thoughts, and all of the mental constructs that we have created. Joseph P. Kauffman
- The core subjectivity in me is the same as the core subjectivity in you because everything arises in it. Bernardo Kastrup
- You and I are illusions. There is only one consciousness experiencing both of our lives, and the lives of every other person, animal, alien, etc, and possibly to some extent experiencing the vast swaths of inanimate matter and energy in the universe. Brendan Punsky
- Your apparent identity is distinct from my apparent identity, but is your essential identity as awareness distinct from my essential identity as awareness? Awareness can’t be touched, because it has no shape. Awareness can’t be seen, because it has no colour. Awareness can’t be heard, because it makes no noise. Awareness is a formless presence, which has no boundaries. So how can your essential nature as awareness be separate from my essential nature as awareness? You are formless awareness that exists outside of space and time … and so am I. Can you get that? As awareness we are one, but what we are experiencing is different. We are formless awareness dreaming itself to be many individuals with different experiences in the life-dream. We appear to be separate, but essentially, we are one. Tim Freke
- The consciousness in which your thoughts appear and the consciousness in which my thoughts appear is the same consciousness. Rupert Spira
- The Knowing with which each of us knows our experience is the same Knowing. Each of our finite minds is precipitated out of the same infinite field of Consciousness. Each of our finite minds is a modulation of the same infinite, spacelike field of Consciousness. If we think of each finite mind as a field, we can say that part of the fields of our finite minds overlap, and we call that the shared outside world. Part of the fields of our finite minds don’t overlap, and we call that our private thoughts and feelings. Rupert Spira
- The knowing that knows your experience is the same as the knowing that knows my experience. Rupert Spira
- The knowing with which each of us knows our experience is God’s knowing. Rupert Spira
- The Knowing or the Consciousness with which each of us is knowing our experience is the same Consciousness. It means that Consciousness can never be divided into parts or objects or selves. It means that if each of us were to take the thought ‘I’ and trace that ‘I’ to its origin, to its source, and if we were to trace it far enough back to the essential nature of each of our minds, we would all arrive at the same Consciousness. There cannot be two infinite, empty spaces. Rupert Spira
- At a surface level, God is knowing many separate experiences. At a deeper level, God is knowing all experience. Anthony Lambert
.
All experience is being known by one consciousness
- All experience being experienced by all 7 billion of us and by all animals, that is all 7 trillion of us, is being experienced by the same consciousness. Rupert Spira
- All seemingly separate and finite experiences are pervaded and illuminated by the same Awareness; God’s Unlimited Knowing. Anthony Lambert
- Be open to the possibility that the Awareness with which all people and animals are aware of anything is the very same Awareness with which you are aware of these words right now. Rupert Spira
- Just as the screen remains throughout all the images that appear on it, so Consciousness or Knowing remains throughout all appearances of the mind, body and world. Rupert Spira
- My awareness is the same as your awareness. The awareness that knows your experience is the same as awareness that knows my experience. Rupert Spira
.
If one consciousness knows all experience, it must be omniscient
- Awareness is omniscient. It knows all experience. Everything that is known, is it not known by awareness? Of course, not all is known by the finite mind. Rupert Spira
- We delight in one knowable thing, which comprehends all that is knowable; in one apprehensible, which draws together all that can be apprehended; in a single being that includes all, above all in the one which is itself the all. Giordano Bruno
.
Consciousness is supra-personal |
.
Consciousness is not personal. It is supra-personal.
- Awareness is completely impersonal but utterly intimate. Rupert Spira
- Awareness transcends your body, mind and emotions. Awareness is not bounded by your body or mind. It is not the personal property of your self, “I” or ego. It is not the product of your mind, body or brain. It does not belong to you. You belong to it. For you, your body and mind, are shapes taken by that awareness, within that awareness That is God. Peter Wilberg
- Being is not our being. It does not belong to a person. It shines in our experience but is not limited to our experience. Rupert Spira
- Consciousness has to go further and rediscover its absolute identity with all things. It has to discover that ‘I am everything’, it has to discover that it is impersonal and unlimited. Rupert Spira
- Consciousness is impersonal, but it is always that which makes us a person. Our ordinary consciousness is a form of expression of the impersonal consciousness. Your personal consciousness is not my personal consciousness. Hameed Ali
- Each sensation and every perception; each thought and every experience, rises and falls within awareness like waves on the surface of the sea. You are this sea of Being—an impersonal presence. Brian Thompson
- I am proposing that there is a Consciousness that exists in and by itself, independent of any personal “owner” of that Consciousness. And that this Consciousness is all there is. Tony Nader
- It is not enough to simply know that ‘I am Consciousness’, because this formulation leaves out everything that we do not consider to be ‘I’ – that is, others and the world. In other words, it leaves open the possibility that Consciousness is personal and limited. Consciousness has to go further and rediscover its absolute identity with all things. It has to discover that ‘I am everything’. It has to discover that it is impersonal and unlimited. Rupert Spira
- On what grounds do we believe that Consciousness is personal? Thoughts are limited. Bodies are limited. The world is limited. However, there is no experiential evidence to validate the belief that Consciousness, in which the mind, the body and the world appear, is limited or personal. Rupert Spira
- Supra-personal: Above or beyond what is personal, transcending the merely personal. Oxford Dictionary
- The ‘Impersonal I AM’ is not ‘personal’, as in your own Higher Intelligence or Consciousness that is personal to you and your Spiritual Nature. The ‘Impersonal I AM’ is incorporated within all Life, which is why it is Impersonal. It is everywhere. Rose Academy
- While consciousness also appears as a personal experience (for example, our personal thoughts, emotions, sense of identity), it is also non-personal and non-localized. Anoop Kumar
- We believe that objects exist independently of their being perceived, that Consciousness is personal and limited, that it is a by-product of the mind and that the mind is a by-product of the body. Rupert Spira
- There is nothing personal about awareness. There is not an entity. Not an I. Not a subject or an object. Both are appearances in consciousness. Consciousness is beyond. Anthony Lambert
- Thoughts are limited. Bodies are limited. The world is limited. However, there is no experiential evidence to validate the belief that Consciousness, in which the mind, the body and the world appear, is limited or personal. Rupert Spira
- The universe is impersonal. And, since you are like a leaf dangling from one of its countless, outstretched limbs, unified with its infinite totality, your presence is impersonal too. There is nothing individual about any of this—including you. All that Is, is universally and harmoniously one. No thing can be considered distinct or apart from all the rest. In truth, no thing exists. There is only That which Is, the ever-flowing stream of consciousness, complete with all of the illusions that appear within it, and you are That—not the illusions, but the consciousness in which all things are being dreamed. Brian Thompson
.
The sense of being a personal self arises in universal consciousness, so consciousness is selfless
- The absence of the self is also there to be noticed. As with the optic blind spot, the evidence is not far away or deep within; rather, it is almost too close to be observed. For most people, experiencing the intrinsic selflessness of consciousness requires considerable training. It is, however, possible to notice that consciousness—that in you which is aware of your experience in this moment—does not feel like a self. It does not feel like “I.” What you are calling “I” is itself a feeling that arises among the contents of consciousness. Consciousness is prior to it, a mere witness of it, and, therefore, free of it in principle. Sam Harris
- The selflessness of consciousness is in plain view in every present moment—and yet, it remains difficult to see. This is not a paradox. Many things in our experience are right on the surface, but they require some training or technique to observe. Sam Harris
.
Consciousness is universal
- And for me anyway, consciousness is three components: a personal component which for lack of a better word we can call the soul. A collective component which is more archetypal and a deeper level, and then a universal domain of consciousness. Deepak Chopra
- Delve deeply into the sense ‘I am’ and you will surely discover that the perceiving centre is universal, as universal as the light that illumines the world. All that happens in the universe happens to you, the silent witness. Nisargadatta Maharaja
- Even though any experience belongs to a particular stream, i.e., a particular individual consciousness, we need to remember that the individual consciousness is simply an organ of experience for pure universal consciousness and the true being of all reality. H. Almaas
- It is the substratum underlying all apparent diversity. It is the extraordinary in the absolutely ordinary. It is the common ground. Interestingly, common means both ‘ordinary’ as well as ‘universal.’ Leo Hartong
- There is a sea of consciousness that is universal, even though we each perceive it from our own shores, an awareness and a world that we all share, that can be experienced by every living being, yet is seldom seen by any. Alberto Villoldo
- The actual subject of pure awareness is the universal consciousness. Amit Goswami
- The entire creation is your universal body. You are so blinded by what is personal, that you do not see the universal. Nisargadatta Maharaj
- You are not limited to this body, to this mind, or to this reality—you are a limitless ocean of Consciousness, imbued with infinite potential. You are existence itself. Joseph P. Kauffman
- When you realize that you are universal and not personal, the egoic mirage begins to fade. Identify yourself as the unbound presence of pure awareness that you are and not as anything that appears within it. Realize yourself to be the Universal Self that permeates all that truly Is. Your truth is invisible, impersonal, selfless, and nameless. The entire universe appears within you, as you—and you are That. There’s nothing personal about any of this. Brian Thompson
- There is only one I actually. That I is Consciousness. When you follow the personal I to the source, it turns into the universal I, which is Consciousness. Begin to catch yourself. begin to realize your divine nature. You do this by keeping quiet. The fastest way to realization is to keep quiet. Robert Adams
- When you follow the personal I to the source, it turns into the universal I, which is Consciousness. Begin to catch yourself. begin to realize your divine nature. You do this by keeping quiet. The fastest way to realization is to keep quiet. Robert Adams
- When I say ‘I am’, I do not mean a separate entity with a body as its nucleus, I mean the totality of being, the ocean of consciousness, the entire universe of all that is known. I have nothing to desire for I am complete forever. Nisargadatta Maharaj
- The universe is founded in consciousness and guided by it. The final reality is Universal Consciousness. The Supreme Consciousness is Omnipresent. Its evolutionary powers pervade the entire Universe. All processes of Nature are governed by the laws of this Absolute Force. Shriram Sharma
- The unbroken realization that you are indivisible from the universe, from universal consciousness, from the source of everything – that you are that source, that there is no other, no second, nothing that is not part of that unity, except as transitory illusion. If you could maintain that realization at all times, through waking and sleeping states of consciousness, across the threshold of death itself, what would you be? Daniel Pinchbeck

The same consciousness is at the heart of every mind |
.
One consciousness lies at the heart of and knows the contents of every mind
- All finite minds, though they seem separate, exist within Gods infinite mind. Rupert Spira
- All our minds are precipitated within the same consciousness and therefore are in contact with each other. The mind is not an isolated entity. Rupert Spira
- At the heart of all finite minds shines the same infinite, indivisible consciousness, of which all apparently separate selves are but partial reflections. Rupert Spira
- Consciousness has the ability to contract into numerous finite minds at the same time. Rupert Spira
- Each of our minds is precipitated out of the same infinite field of consciousness. Rupert Spira
- One television screen cannot see the other screens, but the observer has access to all of them. In the same way, your mind does not have access to other minds, but one consciousness sees all minds. In the same way, your mind does not have access to other minds, but one consciousness sees all minds. Francis Lucille
- Our minds are all precipitated in, informed by and made of the same infinite, indivisible field of consciousness. Rupert Spira
- The ‘I’ of the finite mind or apparently separate self is the true and only ‘I’ of infinite awareness. Rupert Spira
- Why could there not be an infinity of minds all appearing in and simultaneously known by the same consciousness? Rupert Spira
- There is not a separate consciousness for each mind. There is only one hearer, one seer, one perceiver. Francis Lucille
- The knowing with which the limited mind is known is unlimited. Investigate that. Rupert Spira
.
Consciousness is the one observer of the many screens of mind
- If innumerable television screens, each with their own image, represent innumerable minds, then in this case, consciousness is indicated by an observer who is watching all the television screens at the same time. Sometimes two images may have some connection because they share a common object. Sometimes they may not seem to have any connection, because their fields don’t intersect. However, one single witness observes all screens. In this metaphor the witness stands for consciousness and each screen stands for each individual mind. Francis Lucille
.
There is only one mind in the universe
- There are 7 million minds? No there are 7 billion thoughts arising in the same dimensionless presence of consciousness. Rupert Spira
- The total number of minds in the universe is one. Erwin Schrodinger
- The over-all number of minds is just one. Erwin Schröedinger
- The multiplicity is only apparent, in truth there is only one mind. Tim Freke
- The knowledge ‘I am’ that shines in each of our minds and that remains present throughout all experience is the same light of pure knowing, refracted into an apparent multiplicity and diversity of minds. Just as the space in all buildings is the same unlimited space, seemingly divided into a multiplicity and diversity of spaces of different shapes and sizes, so the knowing that shines in each of our minds is the same knowing, only seemingly divided into a multiplicity and diversity of minds by its reflection in numerous bodies.
