Evolution (quotes)

Evolution is a gradual process of change and development

Evolution is what life is about

Evolution is intrinsic to man’s nature …

  • Man is not born perfect. He is born as a process. He has to seek and search and explore. He has to become, because his being arises only through becoming. Becoming is his being. He can only be if he is on the move. Evolution is intrinsic to man’s nature, evolution is his very soul. And those who take themselves for granted remain unfulfilled. Those who think they are born complete remain unevolved. Then the seed remains the seed. It never becomes a tree and never knows the joys of spring and the sunshine and the rain, and the ecstasy of bursting into millions of flowers. That explosion is the fulfilment, that explosion is what existence is all about—exploding into millions of flowers. When the potential becomes the actual, only then is man fulfilled. Osho

… and the desire to evolve is humanity’s most pervasive driving force

  • I believe that the desire to evolve, i.e.to get better, is probably humanity’s most pervasive driving force… The things we are striving for are just the bait to get us to chase after them in order to make us evolve, and it is the evolution and not the reward itself that matters to us and those around us. Ray Dalio
  • In a sense everything that is exists to climb. All evolution is a climbing towards a higher form. Rob Parker

To evolve into the person you were intended to be is the real point of being alive

  • The real point of being alive is to evolve into the whole person you were intended to be. Oprah Winfrey
  • There is a higher purpose to your life, a special contribution you came to make. Part of your reason for coming to earth is to evolve yourself as well as to serve humanity in some way. We will call the process of evolving yourself your life purpose, and the service you came to offer humanity your life’s work. They are intertwined, because as you serve others you will naturally evolve yourself. As you evolve and radiate more light, you automatically serve others. Everything you do to evolve yourself and carry out your life’s work is an act of aligning with the Higher Will and your Higher Self. Sanaya Roman

As a society, we need to evolve to the higher ethics of tolerance, love and non-violence

  • “The law of evolution is that the strongest survives!’ ‘Yes, and the strongest, in the existence of any social species, are those who are most social. In human terms, most ethical…There is no strength to be gained from hurting one another. Only weakness.” Ursula K. Le Guin
  • Mankind must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love. Martin Luther King, Jr.

How to evolve

Evolution requires periods of discomfort and pain

  • Every positive change–every jump to a higher level of energy and awareness – involves a rite of passage. Each time to ascend to a higher rung on the ladder of personal evolution, we must go through a period of discomfort, of initiation. I have never found an exception. Dan Millman

  • Personal evolution takes time and work. Bill Harris
  • There’s no race to the finish line; we all evolve according to our own unique pattern of unfoldment and, although it can be accelerated, it cannot be forced. Michael Bernard Beckwith

Evolve through the decisions and actions you take

Evolve by surrendering to your creative impulse

  • Our creative genius is the fountainhead of originality. It fires our compulsion to evolve. It inspires us to challenge norms. Creative genius is about flying to new heights on untested wings. It is about the danger of crashing. Gordon MacKenzie

Realise there is no evolution in certainty and security

  • The search for certainty and security is an attachment to the known. The known is the past. There is no evolution in that. Uncertainty on the other hand is the fertile ground of pure creativity and freedom. I relinquish my attachment to the known and step into the field of all possibilities. Deepak Chopra
  • Let go of the need for certainty

  • Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience you are having at the moment. Eckhart Tolle

What to evolve

Evolve the ability to hold multiple perspectives

  • Let’s consciously evolve as individuals and as a culture to a “second- tier” level of consciousness. Here, for the first time, we can hold multiple perspectives. No one is smart enough to be 100% wrong. Ken Wilber
  • Perspective

Evolve the ability to feel good

  • Our species in general had grown accustomed to pain and adversity through millennia of struggle . . . we were only recently evolving the ability to let ourselves feel good and have things go well for any significant period of time. Gay Hendricks

  • The only thing binding individuals together is ideas. Ideas mutate and spread; they change their hosts as much as their hosts change them. Bernard Beckett

Allow your ideals, tastes and desires to evolve

  • I recognize that even you, yourself, will change. Your ideals will change, your tastes will change, your desires will change. Your whole understandings of who you are had better change, because if it doesn’t change, you’ve become a very static personality over a great many years, and nothing would displease me more. And so I recognize that the process of evolution will produce changes in you. Neale Donald Walsch

Allow your desire to drive your evolution

  • Desire is the engine of creation. Desire is our divine impulse to evolve. Through our wanting, we come to know more of ourselves, each other and life. Desire leads the way home. Danielle LaPorte
  • Desire

Allow your relationships to evolve

In today’s world we need to evolve or we’ll die

  • Humanity is now faced with a stark choice: Evolve or die. … If the structures of the human mind remain unchanged, we will always end up re-creating the same world, the same evils, the same dysfunction. Eckhart Tolle
  • When faced with a radical crisis, when the old way of being in the world, of interacting with each other and with the realm of nature doesn’t work anymore, when survival is threatened by seemingly insurmountable problems, an individual life- form – – or a species — will either die or become extinct or rise above the limitations of its condition through an evolutionary leap.  Eckhart Tolle

Spiritual evolution

Evolution doesn’t just happen at a physical level …

  • I don’t understand why people insist on pitting concepts of evolution and creation against each other. Why can’t they see that spiritualism and science are one? That bodies evolve and souls evolve and the universe is a fluid package that marries them both in a wonderful package called a human being. What’s wrong with that idea? Garth Stein

… but at a spiritual level too

  • The spirit of humanity, like the forces of nature, and like the physical life, is at bottom energy…. Spiritual life, therefore, is just as much a development out of what has gone before in the evolutionary process as physical life is; which means that the origin of spiritual life is from within. John Dietrich
  • We need to update our spiritual ideas so that we conceive of awakening as a perpetual process of evolution, rather than an end-driven dash for ultimate salvation. Tim Freke
  • Spirituality

The very purpose of the soul is to evolve …

  • The soul is very clear that its purpose is evolution…it is not concerned with the achievements of the body or the development of the mind. These are all meaningless to the soul. Neale Donald Walsch
  • There comes a time in the evolution of every soul when the chief concern is no longer the survival of the physical body, but the growth of the spirit; no longer the attainment of worldly success, but the realization of self. Neale Donald Walsch

  • A Oneness of all. An evolution in consciousness of us all that isn’t about the egos. Ram Dass
  • Coming to terms with the fear of death is conducive to healing, positive personality transformation, and consciousness evolution. Stanislav Grof
  • Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience you are having at the moment. Eckhart Tolle
  • Evolution is the development of the energy of the universe in such a way that it has an increasing ability to consciously control itself and the universe around it. It is a progressive change from the unconscious to the conscious. We are the universe trying to comprehend itself. Man is the corporeal manifestation of the universe trying to control its own destiny. Man is God in the process of coming into existence. James Hart
  • I want to suggest that the purpose of the spiritual journey is not to arrive anywhere, but rather to engage with the adventure of life in a new way, so that the evolutionary process unfolds powerfully within us. It’s about waking up to our deeper being so that we can more fully engage with the evolutionary adventure of becoming a more conscious individual. It’s about living our lives as a transformational process through which we are learning to love. Tim Freke
  • Consciousness

Our spiritual evolution has a long way to go yet

  • It’s taken 14 billion years for matter to gain the capacity to become conscious of itself. If this is true, it wouldn’t make any sense that the whole point of enlightenment would be to escape from the whole process at the very instant that the universe is beginning to awaken to itself. Andrew Cohen

Evolve spiritually through meditation …

  • Meditation is the foundation for deeper spiritual evolution. Swami Sai Premananda
  • Meditation

… and by transcending identification with thought

  • The next step in human evolution is to transcend thought. This is now our urgent task. It doesn’t mean not to think anymore, but simply not to be completely identified with thought, possessed by thought. Eckhart Tolle

Spiritual evolution occurs as the result of removing obstacles and not actually acquiring anything new

  • Spiritual evolution occurs as the result of removing obstacles and not actually acquiring anything new. Devotion enables surrenders of the mind’s vanities and cherished illusions so that it progressively becomes more free and more open to the light of Truth. David R. Hawkins
  • Obstacles

Suffering is often the greatest catalyst to spiritual evolution

  • Suffering can be endured because there is a reason for it that is worth the effort. What is more worthy of your pain than the evolution of your soul? Gary Zukav
  • Suffering has a noble purpose: the evolution of consciousness and the burning up of the ego. Eckhart Tolle
  • Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could spare them from all suffering? No, it wouldn’t.  They would not evolve as human beings and would remain shallow, identified with the external form of things.  Suffering drives you deeper.  The paradox is that suffering is caused by identification with form and erodes identification with form.  A lot of it is caused by the ego, although eventually suffering destroys the ego– but not until you suffer consciously.  Eckhart Tolle

Be an evolutionary pioneer

  • The future is not a given. What’s going to happen is not already known and is not predetermined. So often, we tend to hold onto metaphysical worldviews that tell us that the higher levels and stages of development are already laid out. But they’re not. This is a new way of thinking: the recognition that the structures of the future are yet to be determined, yet to be created. And they don’t create themselves; they are created to the degree to which human beings at the leading edge consciously engage in the evolutionary process. Only those individuals who are way ahead of their time begin to create these new structures or grooves in consciousness, and in time, when others progress through the lower stages, they’re going to follow those grooves that have been laid by the evolutionary pioneers who went before them. When enough people take that path, those grooves get deeper and eventually become stages that everybody is going to develop through automatically. So the awakening human at the leading edge today bears a profound responsibility to be an evolutionary pioneer—to be the one who is literally living in that place between the present and the future. There is no one else who can do this for us. Andrew Cohen
