God is dynamic movement and motion
- God is a God of motion, of movement, and of mission… Leonard Sweet
- Life is everything. Life is God. Everything shifts and moves, and this movement is God. And while there is life, there is delight in the self-awareness of the divinity. To love life is to love God. The hardest and most blissful thing is to love this life in one’s suffering, in the guiltlessness of suffering. Leo Tolstoy
- God means movement, and not explanation. Elie Wiesel
- If the greatest god is the stillness all the motions add up to, then we must ineluctably be included. R. Ammons
- Immediate are the acts of God, more swift than time or motion. John Milton
- This vision offered a very different view of God than the one the professor fessor had just described. She saw God as a male person; my image was not of a person at all. Her God ruled over a set and static order. In my vision the divine was not only in constant motion but was the motion itself. In the professor’s universe God gave everything an assigned place in a hierarchy. My imagined universe was not hierarchical but relational, multidimensional, and even random. Flora A. Keshgegian

God is never static or fixed
- Although there is a kind of order in the world of quantum physics, such ordering is also dynamic. We might imagine it as webs of connection and interdependence. Motion in any one place affects the whole. My vision of flashes of light, ever moving, indeterminate and dynamic, offers an image that might better approximate the nature of God in such a universe. Nothing, not even God, is static or fixed. Flora A. Keshgegian
- In motion alone is the answer to all of the mysteries of matter. Walter Russell
- God is constantly on the move. I cannot stay where I am and follow God at the same time; responding requires movement. Margaret Feinberg
- I had a different vision of God. In my mind’s eye I saw energy, manifest as flashes of light, in constant motion. Nothing was static in this universe. The flashes of light, like stars in motion against a night sky, were going in many directions at once. They were connecting and creating connections across space and time. What seemed most real in this universe was energy, ever in motion. God, the divine, was the energy itself, dynamic and connecting. Flora A. Keshgegian
- In the midst of a universe that cannot exist for a second without constant motion, God transcended the order of nature. He stopped. He rested. And He prescribes the same for you and me. Priscilla Shirer
- In the stillness of the night, the Goddess whispers. In the brightness of the day, dear God roars. Life pulses, mind imagines, emotions wave, thoughts wander. What are all these but the endless movements of One Taste, forever at play with its own gestures, whispering quietly to all who would listen: is this not yourself? When the thunder roars, do you not hear your Self? When the lightning cracks, do you not see your Self? When clouds float quietly across the sky, is this not your own limitless Being, waving back at you? Ken Wilber

God sets all in motion…
- God alone is the author of all the motions in the world. Rene Descartes
- Every great movement of God can be traced to a kneeling figure. Dwight L. Moody
- But without effort [God] sets in motion all things by mind and thought. Xenophanes
- God [is] the author of the universe, and the free establisher of the laws of motion. Robert Boyle
- I don’t know what God is, or what God had in mind when the universe was set in motion. Jon Krakauer
- It imagined that any notion of God had to be unchanging, an “unmoved mover,” as Aristotelian philosophy called it. Richard Rohr
- Man is the shuttle, to whose winding quest And passage through these looms God ordered motion, but ordained no rest. Henry Vaughan
- The existence of a prime mover – nothing can move itself; there must be a first mover. The first mover is called God. Thomas Aquinas
- I believe in an impersonal god who set the universe in motion and went off to hang with her girlfriends and doesn’t even know that I’m alive. Neil Gaiman
- You can, when Time is ripe, swope to your feet – at your full height – at a single gesture. Ready to go where? Why… Wherever God motions. Marita Bonner
- It was the hour of morning, when the sun mounts with those stars that shone with it when God’s own love first set in motion those fair things. Dante Alighieri
- What God did was set the mechanism in motion and then allow people to do the best they can under the circumstances that they’re dealt in order to gain grace and get into heaven. Roger Ebert
- There is no erratic power or action or motion in creatures but they are governed by God’s secret plan in such a way that nothing happens except what is knowingly and willingly decreed by Him. John Calvin
- In the beginning (if there was such a thing), God created Newton’s laws of motion together with the necessary masses and forces. This is all; everything beyond this follows from the development of appropriate mathematical methods by means of deduction. Albert Einstein
- Most things, even the greatest movements on earth, have their beginnings in something small. An earthquake that shatters a city might begin with a tremble, a breath. Music begins with a vibration . . . And God created the whole universe from an atom no bigger than a thought. Lauren Oliver
- If you believe in god, it’s much more fantastic to believe that he created this universe billions of years ago and set in motion this long train of activities that eventually resulted in us. I think that’s so much more satisfying, more thrilling, than the idea that it was all done in seven days. Bill Bryson
- God who gave Animals self-motion beyond our understanding is without doubt able to implant other principles of motion in bodies [which] we may understand as little. Some would readily grant this may be a Spiritual one; yet a mechanical one might be showne, did not I think it better to pass it by. Isaac Newton
- The movement of the Spirit of God in the hearts of men and women often calls them to act against the spirit of their times or causes them to anticipate a spirit which is yet in the making. In a moment of dedication they are given wisdom and courage to dare a deed that challenges and to kindle a hope that inspires. Howard Thurman
- Whatever is in motion must be put in motion by another. If that by which it is put in motion be itself put in motion, then this also must needs be put in motion by another, and that by another again. But this cannot go on to infinity, because then there would be no first mover, and, consequently, no other mover; seeing that subsequent movers move only inasmuch as they are put in motion by the first mover; as the staff moves only because it is put in motion by the hand. Therefore it is necessary to arrive at a first mover, put in motion by no other; and this everyone understands to be God. Thomas Aquinas
.
…and keeps all in motion
- According to their [Newton and his followers] doctrine, God Almighty wants to wind up his watch from time to time: otherwise it would cease to move. He had not, it seems, sufficient foresight to make it a perpetual motion. Nay, the machine of God’s making, so imperfect, according to these gentlemen; that he is obliged to clean it now and then by an extraordinary concourse, and even to mend it, as clockmaker mends his work. Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz
- God designed that the living machinery should be in daily activity. For in this activity or motion is its preserving power…. The more we exercise, the better will be the circulation of the blood. Ellen G. White
- God divides the stillness of His omnipresent Oneness into mated pairs, and simultaneously multiplies their power to simulate His omnipotence and omniscience through fast centripetal motion. He then unites His mated pairs to simulate His Oneness, and simultaneously multiplies their speed of centrifugal motion until they disappear into His omnipresent stillness. Walter Russell
