A God who takes change
- God is far from an absentee or hands-off manager.
- God controls everything with a clear plan and design for our lives, all part of God’s master plan.
- God takes care of us and our lives, orchestrating circumstances and events including the people who come into our lives, bringing good out of even that what which appears bad or challenging at the time.
- This means everything happens for a divinely ordained reason and purpose and for our highest good in order to allow us to grow and learn, in order to allow us to awaken and evolve in consciousness, in order to help us be all we can be.
.
Implications of God as overseer
- If God is in complete control, we must allow God to govern which means we can resign our job as general manager of the universe.
- If God is in complete control, we can put our affairs in the hands of God by learning to trust God, realising God has a far better overview of things than us.
- If God is in control, we can surrender all to God, including the running of our lives.
- We can surrender to God’s timing.
- We can trust that “All is Well”, no matter how things seem.
- We can trust the universe is in perfect divine order including this very moment and that all is unfolding precisely as it should.
- There are no mistakes or accidents and nothing happens by chance or by coincidence.
- Knowing God is in complete control can be very comforting for it allows us to turn our worries over to God.
- If God is in complete control, then our job is simply to discern God’s will and to actively give thanks in every situation.
- If God is in complete control, we can let go of trying to control everything and flow more with life, letting go of our attachment to results while also knowing anything is possible.
- Limitations of the metaphor of God as overseer.
- A God in complete control suggests predestination which some really struggle with
- Some argue that surely God has more important things to do than micro-manage our lives.
- When our lives don’t go to plan, its understandably human to question God’s whether God really care or is in control.
- If we believe in God being in complete control, it’s a valid question to ask why seemingly bad things happen.
- Some argue that our world seems to be far from being in a state of divine order and question whether God is therefore in complete control.
- Some argue that when we believe in a God in complete control, we tend to see ourselves as powerless without God and we relinquish taking personal responsibility for our lives.
- For some, these limitations are transcended by seeing God as an overseer who is less hands on, allowing us to have some say, choice and responsibility over our lives.
