What if God is space?
- Some think of God as being outside of space. Some think of God as being a form in space, a form somewhere out there in the sky.
- What if God is neither matter, nor energy, but the very fabric of space itself.
- Several eastern religions compare God to the void or pure emptiness like Hinduism, Taoism and Buddhism. Some Christian mystics also saw God in this way and some expressions of God in Judaism also point to the space like nature of God.
- God is also often described as spirit which pervades all of space and could be said to be one with it
.
In what ways can God and space be equated?
- Some argue that God and space are of the same infinite stature.
- Just as space is infinite, God too is infinite.
- Just as space pervades all, God too pervades all.
- Just as space contains all form and all form contains space, God too contain all and everything is said to contain God.
- God and space are both formless
- Neither God or space is easily definable.
- Space, like God, tends to be overlooked and yet it allows all to be.
- Space is unperturbed by what it contains just like God.
- Like God, space is imperishable.
- Like God, space remains when all forms disappear.
- Space is still largely a mystery just as God is a mystery.
- Like God, space is indivisible.
- Space, as the void, contains pure potentiality giving rise to all forms just as God is pure potentiality; a great emptiness giving rise to all forms; a nothing giving rise to everything.
- Within empty space, as within God, forms continually pop into and out of existence.
- Space, like God, is not an emptiness but actually a fullness, an ocean of seething energy, powerful beyond measure and bursting with constant activity.
- Even dark energy and dark matter seem to be intrinsic to space itself.
- Space is permeated by a dynamic field just as God is described by some to be an active field. Matter is nothing but an excitation or disturbance within this field. Space (and the dynamic field permeating it) is thus believed to be the underlying reality of the universe out of which all form arises.
- Space is nothing taking the shape of everything just as God is said to be the formless taking the shape of myriad forms; the unmanifested manifesting.
- Modern physics indicates that space is not separate from the forms it contains contrary to what older schools had to say. So too, God, the unmanifested, is not separate from the manifested world.
- Modern physics also indicates that all separation between objects in space is a kind of illusion. Thus, within space, as within God, all can be said to be one.
.
God is like space that has become aware
- God, in many spiritual traditions, is equated with awareness or consciousness.
- Awareness is often compared to a space capable of awareness.
- Awareness and space have comparable qualities. Awareness, like space, is formless. Awareness, like space, is an infinite emptiness that contains the world. Awareness, like space, is the substance of all form. Awareness, like space, is ever-present. Awareness, like space, is inseparable yet distinct from the forms arising it. Awareness, like space, pervades all. Awareness, like space, manifests all the forms that arise in it.
- Therefore, if God is in fact awareness, God can be said to be an aware space in which all forms arise, are known and then dissolve.
- Some believe that space, like God, is actually aware. They believe that a dynamic field of awareness pervades all space and is inseparable from it. Unmanifested awareness (pure Being) is theorised to be this dynamic field in a state of motionless rest just as God, unmanifested, is said to be at pure rest. The field at rest is unmanifested awareness (pure Being) while the field in motion is the world of manifestation.
- If correct, this would all mean that space, like God, contains intelligence and memory.
.
What are the implications of God being space?
- God is here on earth, not heaven. God is in all things. God is all pervading. God is inside and outside us. God is being everything. God is in everything. The world is full of God. We are one with God.
.
We are an emptiness to be filled with God
- We all have an emptiness within us. We associate emptiness as undesirable. We try to fill the space with outer things but it never works for long.
- The truth is that emptiness can be a beautiful thing. It is by being empty that we can be filled with God.
- The emptiness within us is God shaped and can only be filled with God.
- We fill the emptiness by going within.
- Beyond the emptiness within us is a fullness beyond measure.
- Deepen your inner space for it is God within you.
- The vastness of outer space gives us an idea of the inner space within us.
- To create inner space is to make space for God within you
- Inner space, not outer space, is the real frontier.
- Discover and deepen the inner space in you through acceptance of the now, letting go of your form identity, inner body awareness, presence, awareness of breathing, meditation, becoming aware of the space between thoughts, prayer, contemplation of emptiness, mental decluttering, becoming aware of space, solitude, pausing, not needing to compulsively fill up space, looking out into the immense outer space of the night sky
- Most of all, deepen inner space by becoming aware of silence. Silence and inner space are synonymous. Silence makes space for God.
- By deepening inner space, we connect with the space of the heart. By deepening inner space, we become aware of ourselves as a spacious emptiness.. This vast emptiness is the essence of who we are, the essence of our divine nature.
- All life has emptiness (God) at its core. By deepening inner space, we become a vast, aware space in which our experiences come and go. Inner spaciousness gives rise to love, happiness, peace and equanimity, possibility, creativity and inspiration, intuition and insight, learning and expanded awareness. Inner spaciousness gives rise to choice and freedom.
- To make space in your life is to make space for God. Make space for your spirit to breathe. Make space for what matters. Make space for God. Make space to simply be. Make space for each other knowing that God is the space between us.
- Loss and death can create space, inviting God in.
