- Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 lAnyone who does not love does not know God, because mGod is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that nGod sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 1 John 4:7–9
- If God is Love, He is, by definition, something more than mere kindness. And it appears, from all the records, that though He has often rebuked us and condemned us, He has never regarded us with contempt. He has paid us the intolerable compliment of loving us, in the deepest, most tragic, most inexorable sense. S. Lewis
- I have decided to love. If you are seeking the highest good, I think you can find it through love. And the beautiful thing is that we are moving against wrong when we do it, because John was right, God is love. He who hates does not know God, but he who has love has the key that unlocks the door to the meaning of ultimate reality. Martin Luther King, Jr.
- I am God, says Love, for Love is God and God is Love, and this Soul is God by the condition of Love. I am God by divine nature and this Soul is God by the condition of Love. Thus this precious beloved of mine is taught and guided by me, without herself, for she is transformed into me, and such a perfect one, says Love, takes my nourishment. Marguerite Porete
- Augustine pointed out that the Bible declares, “God is Love” in 1 John 4:16. He also noted that love involves a lover, a beloved, and a spirit of love that exists between the two. Love, described in this way, is a personal unified relationship that requires all three of these elements to co-exist distinctly and simultaneously. In essence, love is triune. Warner
- God is life. I understand that and express it. God is perfect Truth. I understand that and express it. God is Love. I understand that and express it. I radiate thoughts of love and peace and healing to the whole universe. If anyone has ever injured me or done me any harm, I fully and freely forgive that person now, and the thing is done forever. I go free. Emmet Fox
- God is love, she said. And he respects love, whether it’s between a parents, and child, a man and woman, or friends. I don’t think he cares about religion one little bit. Live your life right. Love with all your heart. Don’t hurt others, and help those in need. That is all you need to know. And don’t worry about heaven. If it exists, you’ll be welcome. Ellen Hopkins
- I see, indeed I know, that in some sense God is love, and God is wisdom, and God is creative action, yes and God is beauty; but what God actually is, whether the maker of all things, or the fragrance of all things, or just a dream in our own hearts, I have not the art to know. Neither have you, I believe; nor any man, nor any spirit of our humble stature. Olaf Stapledon
- Every moment of life brings an opportunity for being conscious of human feeling, in prosperity, in adversity, in all conditions. It costs very little; only a little thought is necessary. There is no greater religion than love. God is love; and the best form of love is to be conscientious regarding the feelings of those with whom we come in contact in everyday life. Hazrat Inayat Khan
- God is love: the affection of friend for friend, the tenderness of mother for child, the adoration of the lover for his love, the faithful devotion of a dog to his master, the deep and abiding love of the long and happily married husband and wife. These are all but faint suggestions of the power and the limitlessness of the love of God for each human spirit. Love is God. Gordon Parker
- Jesus says God is love. I would like to change it. I would like to say love is God. When you say God is love, love is only one of the qualities of God; he may have other qualities: wisdom, justice, etcetera. To me, love is God; godliness is only one of the qualities of love. There is no other God than the fragrance of love. But the fragrance can arise only in deep meditation. Rajneesh
- There is a place for analysis, but it is apt to be quite fatal in prayer and meditation. Do not dissect the love of God, but feel it. Do not dissect divine intelligence, but realize it. Do not wonder how God can possibly solve this problem, but just watch Him do it in His own way-and He will if you will give Him a chance. You know that God is Love. So go ahead on that, and do not get theoretical about it. Emmet Fox
- This theme is repeated throughout the scriptures. Both kataphatic and apophatic spirituality affirm it. God is love. God is love. God is love. This ultimate Reality extends wherever we are, wherever we go. Divine Love-Nature is shot through everyone and everything: you, me, rocks and trees, sinners and saints. It is accessible to Christians and Jews, Hindus and Buddhists, Americans and Iraqis, everyone everywhere. Doug Hammack
- When we assume God to be a guiding principle well, sure enough, a god is usually characteristic of a certain system of thought or morality. For instance, take the Christian God, the summum bonum: God is love, love being the highest moral principle; and God is spirit, the spirit being the supreme idea of meaning. All our Christian moral concepts derive from such assumptions, and the supreme essence of all of them is what we call God. Carl Jung
- God is love. His is not a sentimental, emotional kind of love but the love of the Father who is the origin of all life, the love of the Son who dies on the Cross and is raised, the love of the Spirit who renews human beings and the world. Thinking that God is love does us so much good, because it teaches us to love, to give ourselves to others as Jesus gave himself to us and walks with us. Jesus walks beside us on the road through life. Pope Francis
- Religion becomes a matter of belief, and belief acts as a limitation on the mind; and the mind then is never free. But it is only in freedom that you can find out what is true, what is God, not through any belief; because your belief projects what you think God ought to be, what you think ought to be true. If you believe God is love, God is good, God is this or that, your very belief prevents you from understanding what is God, what is true. Jiddu Krishnamurti
- God’s love is as objective as light. Because the sun in a sense is light, or the source of light rather than being lit, it really gives its light to the earth. And because the earth really receives light from the sun, it is really transformed every morning from darkness to light. Just as objectively, because God is love, God really gives love to us. And because we receive real life-changing love from God, we are really transformed from darkness to light. Peter Kreeft
- Why pray? Evidently, God likes to be asked. God certainly does not need our wisdom or our knowledge, nor even the information contained in our prayers (your Father knows what you need before you ask him). But by inviting us into the partnership of creation, God also invites us into relationship. God is love, said the apostle John. God does not merely have love or feel love. God is love and cannot not love. As such, God yearns for relationship with the creatures made in his image. Philip Yancey
- That’s why we cannot love, because with the ego, love is impossible. That’s why we go on talking so much about love, but we never are in love. And whatsoever we call love is more or less sex, it is not love; because you cannot lose your ego, and love cannot exist unless the ego has disappeared. Love, meditation, godliness, they all require one thing – the ego must not be there. That’s why Jesus is right in saying that God is love, because both phenomena happen only when the ego is not. Rajneesh
- The greatest attribute of God is Love. The Tree of Life is located in the very depth of our soul. The most perfect and abundant fruit that grows and ripens is Life giving Love; it is the great healing force in the world. Love never fails to meet every demand of the human heart. The Divine principal of Love may be used to eliminate every sorrow, infirmity, in-harmony, ignorance and all mistakes of mankind. Love is God; eternal, limitless, changeless, infinite. It is the pulse of the world, the heartbeat of the Universe. Baird T. Spalding
- My children, mark me. I pray you. Know! God loves my soul so much that his very life and being depend upon his loving me, whether he would or no. To stop God loving me would be to rob him of his Godhood; for God is love no less than he is truth; as he is good, so is he love as well. It is the absolute truth, as God lives… If anyone would ask me what God is, I should answer: God is love, and so altogether lovely that creatures all with one accord essay to love his loveliness, whether they do so knowingly or unbeknownst, in joy or sorrow. Meister Eckhart
- Thou shall love the Lord with thy whole heart, soul, and mind. This is the commandment of the Great God, and he cannot command the impossible. Love is a fruit in season at all times and within reach of every hand. Anyone may gather it and no limit is set. Everyone can reach this love through meditation, spirit of prayer, and sacrifice by an intense inner life. There is no limit because God is love, love is God, God’s love is infinite. But part is to love and to give until it hurts. That’s why it is not how much you do, but how much love you put into the action. Mother Teresa
- To me there is nothing more sacred than love and laughter, and there is nothing more prayerful than playfulness. When you are in love, all fears disappear, and when you become love yourself, even death becomes irrelevant. Jesus is not very far away from the truth when he says, God is love. Certainly God is power, the greatest power. I want to improve upon Jesus: I don’t say God is love, I say love is God. To me God is only a symbol and love is a reality. God is only a myth – love is the experience of millions of people. God is only a word, but love can become a dance in your heart. Rajneesh
.
…and love is God
- There are only two states of consciousness that exist – the state of the ego and the state of love. The ego is the narrow state, the seed-form, the atomic stage; love is all encompassing, love is God. The center of the ego is I; the ego exists for itself. The nectar of love is the universe. Love exists for all. Rajneesh

- Love is power, the purest power and the greatest power: Love is God. Nothing can be higher than that. But this power is not a desire to enslave others, this power is not a destructive force. This power is the very source of creation. This power is creativity. And this power will transform you totally into a new being. It has no concern with anybody. Its whole concern is to bring your seeds to their ultimate flowering. Rajneesh
- Loving with human love, one may pass from love to hatred; but divine love cannot change. Nothing, not even death, can shatter it. It is all the very nature of the soul. Love is life. All, all that I understand, I understand only because of love. All is bound up in love alone. Love is God and dying means for me a particle of love, to go back to the universal and eternal source of love. Leo Tolstoy
- Love is life, love is god, love is sannyas! Rajneesh
- Only when our greatest love is God, a love that we cannot lose even in death, can we face all things with peace. Grief was not to be eliminated but seasoned and buoyed up with love and hope. Timothy Keller

- God is not understood in His essence until He is also understood as Infinite Love. Divine Love is unlimited in essence and expression, because it is experienced by the soul through the soul itself. The sojourn of the soul is a thrilling divine romance in which the lover, who in the beginning is conscious of nothing but emptiness, frustration, superficiality and the gnawing chains of bondage, gradually attains an increasingly fuller and freer expression of love and ultimately disappears and merges in the Divine Beloved to realize the unity of the Lover and the Beloved in the supreme and eternal fact of God as Infinite Love. Meher Baba

God is the love at the heart of all relationships
- There are no different categories of love. There isn’t one kind of love between a mother and child, another between lovers, and nother between friends. The love that is real is the love that lies at the heart of all relationships. That is the love of God and it doesn’t change with form or circumstance. Marianne Williamson

The love that God is is powerful beyond measure
- Love is unconditional acceptance. It is love of parents for child; also the non-possessive love of partners; also the caring love between all people that enables forgiveness. It’s above energy, though it may be expressed energetically. It’s our essential nature: Spirit itself, the quality we share with God. And it is the binding force of the Universe, inherent in all that is. Peter Shepherd

Carolyn Jane Bohler

- God can only be met in emptiness, by those who come in love, abandoning all effort to control. Belden Lane
- In that process of coming to know that which we name as divine, the God who is love is slowly transformed into the love that is God. Let me repeat that…We breathe love in, and we breathe love out. It is omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent. It is never exhausted, always expanding. When I try to describe this reality, words fail me; so I simply utter the name God. That name, however, is no longer for me the name of a being. John Shelby Spong
- It is good and true to think that every ray of the sun touching the earth has the sun at the other end of it. Just so, every bit of love upon God’s earth has God at the other end of it. Mark Guy Pearse

In love my whole being streams forth out of the rigid confines of narrowness and anxious self-assertion, which make me a prisoner of my own poverty emptiness. In love all the powers of my soul flow out toward you, wanting never more to return, but to lose themselves completely in you, since by your love you are the inmost center of my heart, closer to me than I am to myself. Karl Rahner
- Feel the love of God; then in every person you will see the face of the Father, the light of love which is in all. You will find a magic, living relationship uniting the trees, the sky, the stars, all people, and all living things; and you will feel a oneness with them. This is the code of divine love. Paramahansa Yogananda

- It’s not about finding ways to avoid God’s judgment and feeling like a failure if you don’t do everything perfectly. It’s about fully experiencing God’s love and letting it perfect you. It’s not about being somebody you are not. It’s about becoming who you really are. Stormie Omartian
- The experience of Divine Life and Divine Love trump doctrine and creedal belief. Doug Hammack
- The experience of overarching Love is the point of walking the path of God. It is the quest for ultimate Reality. It is the quest for that which passes understanding. Doug Hammack

- Though our tradition insists we cannot contain God in our minds, it also insists we can experience God. And when we do, we experience love. .
…and this experience fundamentally changes us
- As the experience of Divine Love deepens in us, we change. As we become increasingly present to the incomprehensible God, the expansiveness of Divine Love captures us. Taken on this spiritual journey we find ourselves unable to maintain the narrow focus of “me and mine,” “how I feel,” or “what I want.” Those captured by the love of God inevitably focus on social justice. They invariably begin to care for the earth and its inhabitants. Doug Hammack

You don’t have to give more money to charitable organizations. The reality is, God doesn’t want you to give anyone anything if you only do it to impress God! God does not love you or find you acceptable because of anything that you do. God loves you and accepts you because you are a part of God. Iyanla Vanzant

- To be loved by God is the highest relationship, the highest achievement, and the highest position in life. Henry Blackaby
.
There are those who continue to insist that God is both love and wrath…
- It is no strain of metaphor to say that the love of God and the wrath of God are the same thing, described from opposite points of view. How we shall experience it depends upon the way we shall come up against it: God does not change; it is man’s moral state that changes. The wrath of God is a figure of speech to denote God’s unchanging opposition to sin; it is His righteous love operating to destroy evil. It is not evil that will have the last word, but good; not sorrow, but joy; not hate, but love. Reginald John Campbell
- The severity of the law of God is the necessary sequence of his infinite love. Campbell Morgan

- Don’t say that a loving God is going to send you to hell- He’s not. The thing that’s going to send you to hell is that you’re a sinner and you don’t want to admit it. Vernon McGee
- Eternal suffering awaits anyone who questions god’s infinite love. Bill Hicks
.
…while others point out love and wrath are incompatible
- God is not some remote, inaccessible, and implacable being who demands instant perfection from His creatures and of whose love we must make ourselves worthy. He is not a tyrant to be obeyed out of terror, nor a policeman who is ever on the watch, nor a harsh judge ever ready to apply the verdict of guilty. We should relate to Him less and less in terms of reward and punishment and more and more on the basis of the gratuity–or the play of divine love.Thomas Merton
- The people who know God well—mystics, hermits, prayerful people, those who risk everything to find God—always meet a lover, not a dictator. Richard Rohr

.
Let go of the idea of a wrathful, judgemental God and focus on God as love
- Because we are angry and judgmental, we have projected those characteristics onto Him. But God remains who He is and always will be: He is the energy, the thought of unconditional love. He cannot think with anger or judgment. He is mercy and compassion and total acceptance. Marianne Williamson
- For many people, God is a frightening idea. Asking God for help doesn’t seem very comforting if we think of Him as something outside ourselves, or capricious, or judgmental. But God is love and He dwells within us. We are created in His image, or mind, which means that we are extensions of His love, or Sons and Daughters of God. Marianne Williamson
