Life is a movie (Anthony Lambert)

Chapter 1:  The world we experience is as illusory as a movie

.

God is experiencing the world through us

Understanding that everything is impermanent, that happiness is transformed into suffering, and that all phenomena are lacking reality in themselves and are only projections of our mind, will permit us to counteract the first hindrance to meditation, that is, our attachment to this world.   Understanding that everything is impermanent, that happiness is transformed into suffering, and that all phenomena are lacking reality in themselves and are only projections of our mind, will permit us to counteract the first hindrance to meditation, that is, our attachment to this world.

  • [We assume] that the self is an actual living thing, but it’s not. It’s a projection which our clever brains create in order to cheat ourselves from the reality of death. ~ Thandie Newton
  • In fact, the whole of mythology could be taken as a sort of projection of the collective unconscious ~ Carl Jung
  • You don’t have to set aside a time for meditation. You can do it while you’re driving your car, while you’re at work, while you’re playing music. Just be aware of yourself, of who you really are,and realize the rest is a projection of your mind. ~ Robert Adams
  • Yet a personal God can become a grave liability. He can be a mere idol carved in our own image, a projection of our limited needs, fears and desires. We can assume that he loves what we love and hates what we hate, endorsing our prejudices instead of compelling us to transcend them. ~ Karen Armstrong
  • Who really can face the future? All you can do is project from the past, even when the past shows that such projections are often wrong. And who really can forget the past? What else is there to know? ~ Robert M. Pirsig
  • We can have skills training in mindfulness so that we are using our attention to perceive something in the present moment. This perception is not so latent by fears or projections into the future, or old habits, and then I can actually stir loving-kindness or compassion in skills training too, which can be sort of provocative, I found. ~ Sharon Salzberg
  • We are finally living in Plato’s cave, if we consider how those who were imprisoned within the cave – who could do nothing but watch those shadows passing on the back wall – were convinced that those shadows were their one and only reality. I see a profound similarity to all this in the epoch we’re now living in. We no longer live simply through images: we live through images that don’t even exist, which are the result not of physical projection but of pure virtuality. ~ Jose Saramago
  • God is the experiencer of our lives
