God is the ultimate artist
- God is the creator of all and is infinitively creative. To see this, we only have to look at the world around us. Nature is full of God’s masterpieces and human art is ultimately inspired by God’s artwork.
.
The subject matter of God’s artwork is the experience of life itself
- God has painted a world and then stepped right into it to experience it directly through each living form. God has given himself amnesia in order to lose himself in his masterpiece and experience it in a truly meaningful way. In so doing, God is creating the ultimate work of art, a work of art that is could not be more experiential or fully immersive.
- God’s art is adventurous, courageous and full of risk and yet, at the same time, it is inherently safe.
.
How does God create his artwork?
- God, the artist, fashions worlds of form with his thoughts. His art is made of pure perception, the very substance of inner experience. Some say God creates his artwork by dreaming or imagining.
- God creates from pure silence projecting his art onto the blank canvas of his mind, thus creating an infinity of space and filling it with mental form, all arising from the pure potentiality of his Infinite Being.
- In this universe, God’s work of art takes on seemingly tangible forms which imposes some inherent limitations. These limitations paradoxically act as a catalyst for God’s mind-blowing creativity.
.
God’s artwork contains both light and shade
- God’s work of art contains a play of opposites to provide it with depth and contrast. Without it, the artwork of our lives, experienced by God, would be bland and insipid. A painting needs both light and dark shades for its beauty and to shine through. A great symphony needs deeper notes above which the high notes can soar.
- Like all great art, God’s artwork contains elements of pain that go hand in hand with its joy. God’s art turns pain into light. Our own pain and joy are part of the masterpiece God is creating through our lives.
- God, the artist, has a reputation for being aloof from his creation but the opposite is true. God, the artist, suffers through us, as us. God, like all great artists, is willing to suffer for the sake of his art.
- Through the use of light and shade in this universe, God’s artwork is able to explore the theme of limitation and adversity and its transcendence.
.
God’s artwork exists to do far more than simply entertain
- God’s work of art uses outer form to convey powerful inner experiences. In so doing, God’s art sustains continual interest, riveting the attention and evoking every conceivable emotion.
- Some would say God’s art has no purpose; that it exists for its own sake. Inspired by a deep creative urge and an overflowing of love, it is created as a form of divine play for the pure joy of creating and experiencing. God’s work of art is a celebration of existence, self-expression, vision, beauty, harmony, colour, love, simplicity, wonder, awe and rapture
- God’s art explores and reveals profound and eternal truths leading ultimately to a recognition of our oneness with all. God’s art conveys its truths through the masterful use of illusion. It provides an immersive experience of a vividly imagined virtual world in order to make us question what is really real and what is not and point us to higher realities.
- Most of all, God’s artwork explores the nature of the artist himself; what he is and what he is not. In so doing, it provides a window to that which is universal, infinite and eternal and provides a medium through which God can wake up to Himself through his art.
- God’s art creates a longing for and search for God and then facilitates a connection with God.
- While God reveals himself through his artwork, dipping his brush with his nature, God’s art also intentionally hides. Left somewhat obscure and ambiguous, its intention is to deepen the Mystery that God is.
- God’s work of art asks probing questions. It exists to engage, challenge, provoke and even disturb, providing a catalyst for exploration and discovery. In so doing, God’s art reveals the true meaning and inward significance of things. God’s art is so provocative that it could even be seen as controversial by some.
- God’s art communicates and engages, exploring and expressing important ideas. It is knowledge made visible and facilitates the arising of wisdom. It also explores issues of morality leading towards the emergence of timeless ideals and eternal principles.
- God’s art is also about evolution, change and transformation. It constantly challenges the status quo, raising consciousness and expanding perception. God’s art serves to inspire, opening us up to new possibilities and encouraging us to constantly go further and become more. It is an expression of freedom beyond the constraint of form, leading us towards an experience of inner freedom, the freedom of the spirit. Ultimately, God’s art is about transcendence of limitation and transcendence of the self.
.
God’s work of art can be compared to:
- A movie, light show or play
- A kaleidoscope, collage or mandala
- A quilt, mosaic or tapestry
- A symphony or song
- A painting, drawing or sculpture
- A dance
- A poem, novel or story
.
Is God’s work of art permanent?
- Some would argue that God’s work of art is a kind of constantly shifting sand mandala and that each life experience arises in time and is lost in time. This belief points to a sacred impermanence but can create a sense of loss and sadness for some.
- Others believe that every life experience is a permanent etching within God’s epic artwork. Every thought, feeling and action in every life becomes a permanent brushstroke, stored in the timeless field of conscious as an astral imprint, akashic record, or eternal memory. These stored memories in God’s divine mind have an ongoing creative effect on God’s art being created in the present. If this is true, it means our lives vibrate within God’s artwork for eternity. Death is a remembering, not a forgetting. Maybe death is a chance to experience the full symphony and see how the note that each of us is played its part.
.
The implications of life being God’s work of art
- Appreciate the world as the divine, wondrous and mysterious work of art it is.
- Recognise that all art is a gift from God. All art is divine and sacred. It is through art that we can know God.
- Abandon yourself to the joy of creativity for that is God’s highest invitation to us and what God longs for most through us. God’s art continues to be created through us, as us.
- Recognise your creativity is a gift from God and a gift back to God. Creativity in life is the truest form of prayer and worship. To be creative is to be Godlike. To be creative is to be in the presence of God.
- Recognise that when you are creative, you channel God. Your impulse to create is God’s impulse to create through you. The best way to create is to surrender fully, thus putting yourself in the right state for God’s creativity to flow through you. God’s inspiration is like the breath that flows through the flute that you are.
- Recognise each of us is a masterpiece of God, exactly as we’re meant to be, unique in all the universe. This masterpiece is a constant work in progress.
- God uses our lives to create art. If we see ourselves as co-creators, we can help turn our lives into works of art. See your life as a great big canvas and throw all the paint on it you can. Each day of your life can become a masterpiece within God’s great artwork.
- In the artwork of God, each of us is a tiny and seemingly insignificant part and yet each of us is a vital and irreplaceable part of the whole.
